In July 2010, Joe Tiernan completed a solo cruise of the North Shannon and Erne Waterways. He cruised from his home at Annavale Manor, near Rooskey, County Roscommon, to Belleek, County Fermanagh, including the Ballinamore and Ballyconnell Canal, and return, in 13 days. Joe completed the entire Shannon-Erne Navigation with another solo cruise in June 2012, this time from Annavale Manor to Parteen, near Limerick City, and return, in 16 days.
